I am Daniel Mateos, the founder of Sportyy.com. My background is in the financial world where I worked as a buy-side Equity Analyist for Deutsche Bank and as head of the Financial Advisory Department and portfolio manager at Barclays. For eight years I combined my work in the bank with the world of sports betting and now I work as a full time sports investor.
The financial markets have many similarities with the world of betting. Both are markets
where the participants have agreed on a set price. In both, the key to making money is having access to the best possible information and ascertaining whether this information is fully reflected in the available price or not. If it is not reflected in the price in my opinion then we have a value price. My work therefore is to gather information and analyze it as well as possible to ascertain if the price on offer is a value price.
Another aspect in common with the financial markets is Risk Management. In the same way that it is not recommended to invest too high a percentage of your capital in one specific asset or activity neither do we invest too much in one single pick. Unlike other investment markets if a sports pick loses, you lose all that you have wagered. We must therefore take particular care to manage our bankroll in such a way as to maximise profit and control our risk.
